BRAMPTON –In anticipation of Portugal Day, on June 10, MP Sonia Sidhu joined community members at Brampton City Hall on June 3 for the second annual flag raising ceremony, and hosted members of the community at Parliament Hill on June 6 for a Parliamentary celebration.
As a member of the Canada-Portugal Parliamentary Friendship Group, MP Sidhu, who represents Brampton South, invited approximately 60 community members who traveled by bus to attend the celebration in Ottawa. In collaboration with her colleagues, MP Sidhu joined a celebratory BBQ lunch and cultural showcase. Despite the rain, the mood was cheerful, and all in attendance said they enjoyed the event.
Earlier in the week, MP Sidhu attended the Lusofonia festival at the Brampton Garden Square. The festival featured Portuguese food, music, dance, and folklore performances from the community while the Champions League soccer tournament played on the big screen.
“It has been a week of celebration with my friends in the Portuguese community,” MP Sidhu said. “I am proud of the recognition given to this rich culture not only in Brampton, but also in Ottawa. The contributions of the Portuguese community have contributed greatly to the beauty and diversity of this city – and this country.”
MP Sonia Sidhu is an executive member of the Canada-Portugal Parliamentary Friendship Group, working to represent the Portuguese residents of Brampton South, and to maintain a strong relationship with counterparts in Portugal.
