As Canadians, we have been gearing up to this celebration for a long time, and over the past several months, the excitement has been growing with great intensity. The long awaited weekend is finally here, and I am looking forward to celebrating with the residents of Brampton South.
It has been a busy few months, with lots going on in Ottawa, and equally busy schedules here in Brampton. I want to thank everyone who has invited me to join their events and celebrations, as well as those who took the time to come and meet with me in either Ottawa or my Brampton office.
This weekend, we mark 150 years since Canada’s Confederation. That is 150 years since Canada decided to make its own way in the world, and set ourselves apart as world leaders in many different areas. Canadians are known for our kindness, generosity and innovative world views. We welcome diversity, and even embrace it, knowing that it is our greatest strength as people and as a nation.
Last weekend, I had the honour of delivering remarks on behalf of our Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, at the opening of Carabram. This festival is a perfect example of everything wonderful about Canada. Through arts and culture, we share different traditions and celebrations from the multitude of backgrounds that make up Canada. The Prime Minister congratulated the organizers of Carabram for the successful festival, and thanked them for the work they do to put Canada, and Brampton, on display.
I also had an opportunity to speak at Latin Fest last weekend. This was just one more example of the rich diversity we hold dear in Canada. We celebrate our differences, and share our experiences, to make this country even more special.
As someone who chose to come to Canada from another country, I know how special this place really is. I am so proud to be Canadian, and honoured to serve as your Member of Parliament. Your support is what keeps me going, and I will continue working hard for you each and every day.
I wish everyone in Brampton and across Canada a very Happy Canada Day on this milestone anniversary. I hope that you take time with family and friends, and participate in some of the many celebrations happening right here in Brampton.
Happy Canada 150!
Member of Parliament for Brampton South
